I know that this is a dangerous verse for some as it seems to give us permission to be fleshly and just to want the things of this world for pleasure and excess. I understand that this verse has been used and abused by many people who don't have a desire for the things of God.
But can I say that I truly believe this verse?
I have wanted a baby grand piano since I was six years old. My first piano teacher had one in a little den where she gave her lessons. Every week, I would slide in behind that piano and receive my lesson. I loved that piano with its hard action and big tone. I made Karla promise when we got married that she would buy me one before I turned sixty.
You see, I pray when I play the piano. I sing and talk to God. It's better than any other time with the Lord.
And now, I have one.
God has granted me the desires of my heart. And I will use it to talk with Him and to worship Him.
God is great! What do you think?

It sounds like Karla gave you the desire of your heart instead of God since you made her promise you one.
I have known alot of people who use the piano as a way of worship. Nothing wrong with that.
Congratulations
I think that God wants to bless us and give us the desires of our heart. Many of us have this concept that we are to live a life of poverty and not ever have "things." I don't believe that is the heart of God at all. I think there has to be a balance, but I don't think we shouldn't have some things too.
Be blessed that God gave you a wife who loves you and wanted to bless you. That in itself is the true blessing of God.
I felt I needed to add to my comment so it isn't taken wrong.
I totally agree with what Lisa said. God does want to bless us with things that we want. I know He has done that with me on several occasions. One time was when I was getting to the point where I wasn't able to walk at the places where I had to walk alot. I went and looked at power wheelchairs. That was the desire of my heart. And to be able to continue to go places without having to have someone push a regular wheelchair.
I found one that fit my body really well. It was in excellant shape, etc. They even said they would give me a discount. I couldn 't afford the discount let alone the chair. I put down a $50. deposit and ask them if they would hold it for 30 days. They said yes. So that is when I began to pray, stand on God's Word and believe God for the money.
There was a lady that I didn't know that lives in another state that heard about this. She sent me an email and said she felt like she was suppose to pay for that chair for me. This was just 3 or 4 days before the 30 days was up. She called in the payment but was $200. short of having it all. I had a Dr. appt. the day before the 30th day. I was telling my Dr. about the chair and she said she would pay the other $200. and she did. I picked up the chair on the 30th day. I am still using it.
God gives us the desires of our hearts through all kinds of ways. He wants us to be blessed. Just sometimes it comes through ways we know nothing about.
Be blessed Pastor Bill with the desire of your heart. God barely got it to you before your 60th.
{:0) Just kidding
If we only really understood how much God really loves us. Everyone should read the Shack!
